Paths

Maybe I need to keep things short and snappy. The idea of producing reams of rambling shite is frankly more daunting than that of one or two paragraphs that are actually meaningful. Despite my better knowledge, some part of my psyche can’t quite get a hold of the ‘quality, not quantity’ mantra.

This got exhausting towards the end of last year, by which I refer to the last five or six months. Keeping this up has been difficult and I’ve taken solace in other comforts over the festive period, namely rewatching old sitcoms on Netflix and playing newer interactive material on a brand new PlayStation 4 I treated myself to for actually having money left over from Christmas shopping.

Now, however, the season to relax is drawing to a close and, by the time this makes it to public view, I’ll be back at the daily grind. It’s difficult writing for a living when your writing for a hobby is bad enough. But still, we all choose our paths and this one just so happens to be mine.

Having completed 50 in a row last year, I know I can probably do the same over the course of this one, but we’ll see. I might only get so far before I start to tear my eyeballs out in an act of further self-indulgence. Happy New Year.

Never was good at keeping promises to myself. Yes I shared 50 songs over the course of the last year, hoping I’d put together some kind of Christmas special post zipping through them all again. However, just like any other post at Christmas, I failed to deliver. It’ll remain in an unshared Spotify playlist that I can go back to at some point, but now 2017 calls for another list to be started anew.

Towards the end of 2016, I mentioned not being very familiar with The xx and how I should probably rectify that. This also involved digging into solo work by Jamie xx, even though I’d listened to his album upon release in 2015. Turns out, however, that one listen back then just isn’t enough. Recent repeated spins of In Colour have engrained his set of sounds into my brain, all kicking off with this one. Because it’s the album opener. Hey, it’s still the first week of the year, I’m not ready to do this all again.
