Coming up with this stuff is difficult. Like, right now, I’m typing with no real sense of direction, no subject matter and (to be honest) no real drive to continue beyond the end of this sentence.
And yet we soldier on because, well, why, exactly? Because I’m very mean to myself and I make myself do it even when my mind is devoid of all subject matter. I’ve just taken a swig of lukewarm tea if that counts for anything.
I hate the fact that I live next to a main road; more so the fact that my bedroom faces out onto a main road. While there’s not exactly as much traffic at night, the sound of the occasional car, lorry or blue squealing ambulance naturally travels towards me very easily, making relaxing in front of the television, a good book or even the simple act of trying to sleep a little less relaxing.
I often fantasise about when I move to my own place that I’ll be in a much quieter area and that the lack of noise pollution will feel not only calming but slightly eerie. Then I just remind myself that I’m not going to be in a position to move to my own place for a lot longer than I kid myself into thinking, despite telling myself for an entire year that “this time next year” I’ll be on my way.
The only reason I bring this up is because cars are travelling to and fro outside the window, and the fact that it’s been raining is making those driving noises a little more splashy than they were yesterday.
Nothing says midlife quite like a flowery shirt and sudden change of musical direction. Snotty observation aside, I’ve found this very enjoyable, with the tin whistle sample and occasional subtle saxophone blast creating an air of a demented Christmas song. With this, the former Oasis star is a short leap away from Wizzard or Slade.
I’m aware that many other people have noted the resemblance to a Ricky Martin song, but other than “she fell, she fell” being vaguely reminiscent of “she bangs, she bangs”, I fail to see how this makes a solid case for plagiarism.
