Heat Like This

Remember when I was saying it was too cold and I couldn’t wait for some warmth? Of course you do, it was only a couple of months ago.

Now I’m going out of my way to say it’s too warm. So warm, in fact, it’s hot. So hot, in fact, it’s too hot. Beverages barely have a chance to be consumed before they completely evaporate. The highest setting on every desk fan is laughably impotent.

There’s an overwhelming sense of lethargy in the arid air, manifesting itself as half-completed work and happily bypassing any basic need to provide for oneself. This is how I ended up with a KFC last night. Evidently, my unwillingness to frivolously spend money on small luxuries was massively beaten by my unwillingness to cook.

It’s at this point that I’m reminded of how I struggled to recall heat like this and I naturally presume that global warming has something to do with it. I. Also reminded of the sceptics who, at the height of a freezing winter, would mockingly say “so where’s all this global warming to warm us up then?” *sneer* *snort* *etc.*

I’m far from being a scientist but in my basic understanding of things, ‘global warming’ isn’t so much the right terminology as, say, ‘climate change’. This (I presume/guess) is because whatever atmospheric layer was protecting our surface from the endless nothingness beyond has been eroded so much that pure direct heat from the sun affects us in summer, while pure direct nothing from the cold black emptiness affects us in winter.

This could all be bullshit in my brain, but it makes sense to me in a simplistic kind of way so it’s a worldview I’ll stick with. You know, unless it turns out the Earth is actually completely flat, which, of course, it fucking isn’t. Don’t be an idiot.

This one keeps coming back around. It’s perhaps a bit more “mainstream pop” than I’d normally care to go for, but between the sunny vibes, regular plays in public spaces and the fact that my sister’s rendition of the opening words has drilled itself into my brain, I’m finding myself quite fond of this.

I think, as a point of being fair and non-pre-judgemental, I gave the whole album a go as well a while ago. I genuinely can’t remember any of it though. Maybe that’s a comment on it being a bit bland, maybe it’s a comment on me being shit at paying attention. Who’s to say really?
