The Regularity of Exercising

The blubber floating on top of my abdominals but under my skin has been taunting me for too long. I rejoined the gym. I’ve done two sessions of intense treadmill running and I can’t feel my feet any more. My thigh muscles have seized up and refuse to let me walk again. I’m extremely tired.

Given a day or so, all (or at least most) of the aching should subside and I’ll be able to walk freely without the need to stumble along while clutching at the wall for fear of tumbling down. A day later it’ll be time to run again, in a desperate attempt to keep up the stamina as well as the regularity of exercising. With any luck (and, let’s face it, a lot of willpower), the trend will carry on for longer than seven months this time around.

If it fails this time, I suppose I still have the fallback option of drawing a pair of Sharpie eyes on my belly and periodically having a staring contest with the bloody thing. Understandably, however, that’d be a contest I’d always lose, what with the Sharpie not having the autonomy to blink and everything.

Even though this made its way into the world towards the start of the year, it’s only recently that my ears have found themselves wrapped around it. With this Spanish quartet hovering in the periphery of my listening habits for a while, I finally plumped for the latest album and realised it was most enjoyable.

I’m not sure whether it’s the cheery yet somewhat distorted guitar riffs, the fuzzy lo-fi style on the vocals or the occasionally discordant shouting (or even some combination of the above), but I really dig this. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to drink several questionably responsible beverages and sing (shout) along.
